Strip-in-plane (SIP) actuators can be used for positioning, pumps (or drives) for valves and haptic feedback, if a very flat overall size and in-plane movement is needed.
The out-of-plane actuator can be used for similar applications as the in-plane actuator. However, it is a very compact design alternative.
Desaar’s actuator can also serve as very efficient drives for valves with and with-out proportional flow control.
The bandwidth of Desaar’s actuator ranges up to the kilohertz range. This allows for use as light-weight speakers.
Adding an actuator to a commercially available touchscreen gives it a third dimension sensation. It allows simulating three dimensional buttons or surfaces by maintaining a compact overall size.
This example shows the potential scalability of dielectric elastomer actuator systems developed with Desaar’s know-how. A mass of 10 kg (22 lbs) can be lifted 3mm (0.1 inch).
A circular-out-of-plane DEA is used to move the contactor. The technology could even fulfil the high speed requirements (>400 mm/S).
The actuators of Desaar are able to drive a pump, too. Our technology allows to run the pump at a constant frequency and control the flowrate with the voltage applied.
